Hello
just looking for some advice ...
I have a Paradox database which is pretty big, I want use Access (Office 2003) to query a no. of tables in the DB and have the following questions
1. Is the best way to do this to link New MS Access tables to tables in the Paradox database ? then generate queries on those linked tables
2. If so how do I prevent changes in the Access tables pushing changes through to the original data - I could have a disaster on my hands if that was allowed. Had a quick play this afternoon and tested, the changes do follow through.
3. If this is not a good idea what is the best way to dispose of the MS Access linked tables I have created without damaging the Paradox DB ? (ie. is it safe to just delete them ?)
4. If this is safe, presumably once the tables are linked I have to recreate relationships between the linked tables ? (as they don't appear automatically)
5. Is there a way to set up a query that interrogates the Paradox DB wihtout having to link tables or copy data (I really don't want to copy data). Although this may not be a good idea as there are lots of tables some of which have the same field names - but containing different data types etc.
6. The table links only work when the Paradox DB is not in use - is there a way around this ?
any help very much appreciated,
cheers
