I have a form where I enter the students lastname, firstname
I need a field that just pulls the first 2 letters of the lastname as well
Is there an easy way to do this

where would I enter that...in the design view of the form??

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'pulls the first 2 letters of the lastname'. If you have a entered the last name into a field, then at a later point in time you can have just the first two letters of the last name printed in a report, etc by using the left() function...
