I am setting up a database to do with a lesiure centre, and have 3 tables, one with member details, one with staff detailsand one with activity details...thing is i want to have a box appear when 'Member Details' is clicked (the button on the front page) so that a staff ID is required for access to this table....is this possible? If so how? lol!

Is your database on a network or a standalone PC?

Ummm it can be on both sometimes stand alone at home, or on a network when working...why does it matter?

I was trying to do it like, in excel as an example...you can create a userform to appear when you click on a button...there are no userforms in access so is there any other possible way of a box appearing requesting Staff ID information?

Hi Again

The reason I was saying about the network or not was that if its on a network then you can pick up the network name and use that to control what happens.

Have you studied workgroups yet? I confess I haven't had success with these but they do give different levels of security.

Or, you could create your own users names and passwords and have a form pop up so that they enter their name and a password.
You can have an If ...Then to control the state of the form.

Although it's possible to use a makeshift password/ID table system, it won't be very secure and could be bypassed in seconds.

The built in user level security is a MUCH better option.
It may seeem daunting to the novice, but perseverance pays dividends.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll find it quite simple and will be a useful tool to use with future dbs.

Hi O Welsh Angel

I was a bit worried that you mention tables alot and not forms, presumably you have a switchboard form and input forms, and are not typing directly into the table itself.

I do agree with Kevin - that workgroups would be the preferred option.
