This is the code I use but I really need to hide the charactors
whilst typing them in so none can see them but I have no idea how to put that in
any help appreciated

Code:
strMsg = "Please Enter the password to allow access."
strInput = InputBox(Prompt:=strMsg, Title:="Admin Password")
If strInput = "CH1" Then
'MsgBox "Password accepted! Welcome! " & "Mike" 'password is correct
DoCmd.OpenForm "issue list"

thank you

Don't use an input box.
Create a small form to enter the data. Set the input mask to Password on the textbox control where the password will be entered.
Bob will be your uncle.

what you need is InputBoxDK. copy in new Module:

Here is another version of the masked input box originally written by Daniel Klann with 64-bit modifications by myself and @riti90. I haven't compared the code but it should be similar to the above
