I have been fiddling with passwords and stuff Searching the Internet like crazy. I have had some luck but am not fully satisfied yet.... Hoping someone can help me, not sure tho cause it is a VBA like thingy but actaully a windows question.

Here goes....

I have (taken from the internet) a working check for a user/password to a windows NT server. However i want to be able to popup a message "Your account will expire in...." and i cannot seem to get it somehow.... This because some users might not be login in to the DB with their own account but rather the account of someone else.

Also maybe changing it might be a future requirement. The PW check works nicely in it selve.

Anyone have any idea's or is atleast willing to look at it? Cuase i am stumped...

Regards & TIA

And you let them LIVE?

Seriously, if a user does not identify him/her self correctly, how would you EVER figure out whose accounts are having trouble?

I know of no way to handle the problem you describe without some modicum of user cooperation - like, logging in as themselves.

Now, as to the mechanics of this, you can declare a form to be a modal, popup form and open it. Look up those terms under Help to get the details.

If you are "rolling your own" password in a file other than your workgroup, you could track the date of password change in a separate table. Using an opening (startup) menu, you can run some code that tests the user information for special requirements. If you don't have a startup form, you made your life a little harder.

For starters.... thanx for your response Doc
And you let them LIVE?
Unfortunatly Yes ... but all users should DIE !!! Or most off them... Some i cant even believe they still live cause they seem to stupid to find their mouth to put food in it... But hey.... "Cant live with em... cant live without em"

Its not just that users use others accounts, but ppl leave their machines on 24-7 ass well, loosing passwords and stuff...

I am checking the PW against the NT server not my own...
If you don't have a startup form,
Have one :) (offcourse) users need to be "forced" to log on....

I used to use my own MDW and stuff but am finding that "yet another PW" can be to much for users. Whereas PW-less accounts are just not acceptable in some situations. I have tried dooing a check on current windows user, but as users dont allways lock their machines that is not acceptable either. I am trying to go as near to a 100% as i can. Offcourse there is no such thing... but trying doesnt hurt.

When using the code from the link I am able to return a true or false for user/pw/domain correctness for any user logged in under any user.... That "stealing" part was easy, allthought i am still trying to understand it.... I wish to extend the function to retrieve the Expiry date of the NT server PW so i can pop up "You must refresh...."

LOL "Users Cant live with em... cant live without em", *walks away while shaking his head*

Regards
