i have a list of names that i would like to print as a phone book.
my question is: i would like to include the first and last names listed on the page in the header. for example if the first name of the page is Adams and the last name of the same page is Biston, i want the header to look like "Adams - Biston"

solution

after much trying i was able to get what i wanted, even though i am sure there is a much better way to do it. i am posting the way i did it for those who are interested.

in the page header i put the field [last]. this is the last name from my field list. visible = no

in the page footer i put the same field [last]. visible= no

in the page footer i put 2 unbound fields. i called one [firstonpage] and the other [lastonpage] visible = no

on the onformat for the page header, i put the following code:
[FirstOnPage] = Me![Last]

on the onformat for the page footer, i put the following code:
[LastOnPage] = Me![Last]

then i made a final field with the control source :
=[firstonpage] & " - " & [lastonpage]

works fine for me becuase i needed the info on the page footer. when i moved the field to the page header, it did not work right.

maybe there is another solution that someone could please post.

If you are willing to spend a few bucks and in the process get the best reference available purchase the Access 2000 Developers Handbook from Sybex. Page 711 of 1611 has a phone book example.

Developer Solutions, available free from the MS Download centre also has an example

where can i find developers solution

where can i find the developer's solutions from microsoft?

It's in the knowledge base somewhere, I'm sure the link to MS is on the Help menu
