I have 3 databases Orders, Stock and Customers. My boss has asked me to get it so that when a new order is placed it automatically calculates the amount of material needed. We cut down the material in house to various sizes so we need to be able to compare the size of the sheet with the size of the product needed and its done by hand so we need to allow for trim. Can someone help me please I have no idea how to start with this or if its even possible .

Thanks Drayloc.

calculating the smount of material is one thing, and must be quite easy

but are you asking about routines to optimise cutting? Very very difficult.

Hi gemma-the-husky and thanks for your reply. In answer to your question I'm not sure as I've only really been using access for about three weeks but I don't suppose there's a website that you could point me to so I can learn about that kind of thing is there?

@Drayloc - you'r more likely to get help if you describe your problem in the thread title, instead of writing something like "I need help"

and as for your question I must agree with Dave, it's very difficult to create routines to optimize the cutting
I suggest you try googling for this. We can translate a code once you find something.
Or you will have to write all the routines you'r doing now, and after that try to make them into code
