Populating a field on a based on a record

I have tblShipmaster
I have tblshipvoy
In the table tblshipvoy , the primary key field is Voy_Num. The IMO_Num field is same as the one in tblShipmaster, so that I can create one to many relationship , different voyage number can have same IMO_Num as a ship can come several times. I have set up a lookup to list the IMo_Num and related ship.
What I want is that when I put in the IMO_Num from the drop-down combo box in the IMO_Num field in the table tblshipvoy, I get the ship_Name in the ship_Name field of the tblshipvoy

easiest way is to use the wizard to insert a combo box on your form which will "find a record based on my selection" (option 3).

Thanks am new and at my very first project , how do i do the combo box on the form

Click the combo box button on the menubar and let the wizard kick in.

Note that you don't store the ship name in the voyage table, just the ID. The combo box will show the name but it won't be stored as you don't need it.

How do i activate the combo box menu , i click andf drag it in the form in design view

what version of access are you using?

first, make sure your wizard is on (see image below - arrow on the right)
then, click BUT DONT DRAG the combo box icon (see image below - arrow on the left).

then click on your form where you want your combo to be. a wizard will pop up (see image below). choose option three.
