populating a list

hi,
I'm using an append query to copy some values into another table, the problem I have now is setting/updating a field to a given value in the same table I'm copying to which is blank after the append action. Could someone please point me in the right direction in how to set the values of 1 or more fields from 1 to N in a table, where N may vary, depending on the append query? Is this as difficult as it sound to me? probably not :O). Then again maybe it is

Just add an expression field to your append query. It could be from a variety of sources, like just type a number in the 'field' block on the query. Select the destination field from the 'append to' dropdown.

Does that help? 'Cause I ain't doing anything else of consequence today. (Really)
