Problem showing time as medium time

I've been trying to set the time format for a date/time type of field to medium time while in table design view. I select the field and go to the field properties tab below and choose "Medium Time" and save. When I go and try to enter data, it always turn the time entered into the "Long Time" format. I tried using short time too, but the result was the same:..it always comes out as long time. What am I doing wrong?

When you click into the field, the format is removed and it reverts to long time. Rather than entering data directly into the table, use a form. You can use an input mask to control the format.
