Problem with weekly groups in report

I have a report where I'm grouping values based on week. If I use the formating as "ww", the weeks are shown from 1 to 52 with no problems. However I want to be able to show them in a monthly grouping as well, to get something like:

Jan
week1: $xxxx
week2: $xxxx
week3: $xxxx
week4: $xxxx
week5: $xxxx

Feb
week1: $xxxx
week2: $xxxx
etc...

When I change the formating of the date field I'm using to "w", the week numbers get all crazy and instead of showing 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... it shows 6, 3, 4, 6, 1...

Any ideas on how to fix this or what I could be doing wrong?
