Can someone help me with this problem?

The error message in word is "Word could not re-establish a DDE connection
to Microsoft Access to complete the current task".

The email I got from my client is "This is the problem a user is having when
trying to do a mail merge from
word connecting to an Access DBF file. The file is sitting on the
server and up until about August it worked. At that point a "Database
Guy" implemented an updated layout/structure to the database and had the
one lady who use to connect to it now connect to the server. This was
because of access issues by other users if it wasn't sitting on a
server. It looks like the issue might have something to do with the
linking of the database but I am not sure. My database experience is
limited and more importantly unused for the past few years. The
attached MS support article referees the exact error."

I also have a word doc with a screen shot of the error message is someone
wants to see it.

Many thanks
Arthur

Hi arthur, welome to AWF.

Can you highlight the process that the user executes to perform the mailmerge and if possible, the code behind the mailmerge function? The screenshot may be helpful so go ahead and post it.

Also is the Db split into FE/BE and does the mailmerge use a particular template?

Hi Fizzio

Attached is the screen shot of the problem.

Unfortunatly you now have all of the information I have. Maybe, I should go to the client's office and find the rest of the info? I am in a position right now of having to quote how long it will take to fix the problem.

I will take what ever info you can give me.

TIA

The screenshot nearly helps. The info that would be most valuable is the bit just behind the error popup, which obscures the Data Source information, hmphh.

It is important to ascertain how the client is accessing the mailmerge helper, - is it via code within the Db but I suspect is is via the office links on the toolbar.

Have you got the reference to the MS support article the client describes as your answer may lie within!

Hi Fizzio

I hope we could keep this thread open while I get more info from the client?

You are correct: the user is doing the mailmerge via a Word wizard and not a script in Access.

I will give you more info as I get it.

Many thanks

Does anyone have any more ideas as to this problem???
