Hi all,

This is my first post and I am a novice Access user. I am trying to get my report to ask for a title when it opens.

I have an unbound text field in the header with "=[Enter the Header Title]" in the control source but it does not prompt when I open the report. In fact the title shows up as "#Name?".

Thanks for your help.

Delete the equal sign =
and the quotes " "

It should be [Enter the Header Title]

By using the equal sign and square brackets you are telling the report to print a field called Enter the Header Title which I am sure does not exist. Thats why you're getting the #Name error.

Thanks for the reply statsman but that didn't work. The quotes " " aren't acutally in the formula, I added them to the post to show what I had entered. I tried removing the equal sign = and I still get #Name in the title.

There is a date range prompt in the query the report is pulling from. Not sure if that could be affecting the prompt for a title.

Thanks again.

I don't think the Date range prompt should affect that. In the unbound text field, right click on it and select properties. Navigate to the 'Data' tab, and delete everyting in the Control Source line. And replace it with...

Code:
Please Enter Report Title

Exactly as you see it above. It should work, I've tried it across several different reports/databases on my end.

Done exaclty as you stated but still get the same result.

To be thourough, my exact steps were:
1. Right click the report
2. Select 'Design View'
3. Click once on the unbound text box in the header of the report
4. Select "Property Sheet" from the toolbar
5. Click on the 'Control Source' expression builder in properties
6. Delete everything in the field and type in:
Code:
Please Enter Report Title
7. Click Ok
8. Close properties box
9. Save report
10. Close report
11. Run report

It's a mystery.
