Public static variable

I want to keep a vatiable public and when i close the database and reopen it i want to have the same value for this variable. It can change during usage of the db.

To maintain the variable I would use SaveSetting and GetSetting statements to write and retrive the value to/from registry. The use of the two statements is very easy, check the help file.

I always get nervous when the Registry is involved so why not have a table with as many fields as you have variables and save them there?

you kind of warned me, and indeed before i knew it i messed up my register(?) . I created a table but there was still a savesetting line somewhere i guess.
Now my system is wrecked. what can i do to fix it . Can i startup my computer in safe mode and do some fixing

I am sorry to hear what happened to you. Well, it's unlikely that the SaveSetting caused the disaster that you are talking about. This statement merelly creates a new entry in the part of the registry that is used for application installed on the system. It is restrictive but safe method how to use registry.
