Query cirteria for hyperlink field

In a table I have got a hyperlink field. I want to search data related to data in hyperlink field.

For example I have put 3456w in hyperlin field and when I run query by putting the same number in criteria, it does not fetch anything.

Is there a different way to retreive data from hyperlink field?

Thank you for your reply. I try to explain my question here. I have got a main table with a field name REF NO whose property is set to hyperlink.

Then there is a form based on this table. Whenever a customer sends us some feedback through email, it is sometimes as an attached word or excel document. On the form, we write in the REF NO of that document say 3456W. Right click and go to edit hyperlink and link the relevant document, already saved in a particular folder.

We need to search for data relevant to a specific REF NO. For this, query is designed with a textbox reference in criteria design grid of REF NO field. Like Forms!Form1!Text2.

When I put 3456W in Text2 of Form1 and run the query, it does not fetch any results.

But yesterday when I was trying I tried 3456* instead of 3456W in that Text box and strangly it worked, wonder why? So at present I have managed to make it work but not the way it should be.
