Well it has been ages since i have used this site. I also  haven't changed my personal database for ages and so am very rusty at Access. I have a form that i use to record emails received and sent from friends. I thought i had a good query filter to give the information i wanted but it seems i don't, i made a mistake.

Ok here's what i want to do. The following fields are in my form.

Communication type (email, phone, etc)
To / from (communication in or out, although if the criteria worked i would not need this field)
First name
Last name
Day of the week
Date

What i want to do is have two queries. One that shows the last entry of all the people who i owe correspondence, typically email and one that shows the last entry of all those people who owe me correspondence/email. (fo somplicity sake lets just call all correspondence email from now on)

In theory if i get the query criteria right, if someone owes me an email they will have only one record visible that will only show up in the "People who have not got back to me" query, whereas if i owe someone an email they will have only one record visible that will only show up in the "people i ned to email" query.

At the moment i am having all sorts of problems, i am getting the wrong date for the wrong email, more than one entry for a person or the same person in both queries when they should only be in one. At the moment i don't properly understand how to use the totals filter in design view. I still don't understand the difference between max and last and how adjacent fields in design view affect the filtering process.

Please can you help, it's really confusing me.
