I have read in a few journals about not using the Repair Function in Access 97 unless prompted to do so. What I cannot find is the rational.
Can anyone tell me why it is not a good idea to run the Repair on a reqular basis?

The main reason is: "If it's Not Broke don't Fix It"

The Repair utility is just that a "repair utility".

You do want to have scheduled "Compacts" on the database.

Thanks for the feedback. One of the things I was taught when I was first learning Access was to do the repair and then the compact. This may have been a habit or whatever of the person who taught me, but I've always been curious as to why.
I am interested in learning exactly what is done by these two functions out side of the obvious of course. :)

There was a bug in earlier versions of Access which was fixed in jet 3.5 I believe. I also think they've broken it again since
