is it possible to stop any edits in certain fields in a specific form without disabling them or making them invisible?

i say this because i have a search facility on the same form and want to use it but dont want the information produced amending by people without the proper clearance. I have a second form exactly the same for those with clearance.

yes it is possible,

on the form which you design for search purpose, drop the fields and select the field you don't to be editted and then goto properties window and Event Tab and set the property

Locked = Yes.

It will lock the field against any edition.
