OK, so I'm stuck.
I have my database project (retirement pastime) using 2010 version and it's been fine through many years of development. However, in the last week or so, I've had the odd crash, when the db just closes with no warning. It always happens when I'm in Form View and right-mouse-clicking on the top bar and selecting Design View. It doesn't happen every time, thankfully, but it is annoying me a lot.

I have compacted and repaired the db.
I have uninstalled MS Office completely and re-installed/updated.
I have tried previous versions that had no problems before.

Any ideas?

there is an update bug that causes this. You must un-install the update.
Our databases resumed working after the update removal.

That makes a lot of sense, Ranman. Any idea which update that was?
Unfortunately, because I re-installed all of Office 2010 I have no update dates to work on. A KB******* number would help.

It's probably an update of Windows itself that causes Access to crash. Take a look at Devhut.net, there are a lot of the update bugs.

Daniel recently announced he could no longer afford to devote the time it takes to maintain his update tracking service. So it may or may not be complete going forward. But up to that point he was probably the most comprehensive source of info on this topic.

He actually submitted an article today. Good to see him back...

Access 2010 has been out of support for several years. It no longer receives updates.
As a result, I'd be VERY surprised if this is caused by a bug.

Try the following:
1. Make a backup (ESSENTIAL)
2. Decompile your project to remove any possibly corrupt compilation code. See
3. Now re-compile your project - VBE ...Debug...Compile
4. Run compact & repair

Actually he last wrote an article on 2 Sept as a follow up to one of Mike Wolfe's articles ... nothing to do with Access bugs

UPDATE - Daniel has just uploaded another new article! This time on QR codes

Thanks for the responses. I will take a look at Devhut.net and and see if it can help.
