Is there a popular way to show when records are updated, with something like a text box with Now(), please, Gurus?

It needs to be automatically enacted. (A box that they complete themselves gets quickly forgotten.)

Then if the Client refers to records changed on such and such a date, I can find them instantly.

Thanks, Hay, very much. Very interesting. Liked your history db.

I might - if you'll forgive me - copy it.

But, first, because my needs are so very small, isn't there a simpler way? In mysql, I can have a Now() field that records (automatically) each time a record is worked on.

Isn't there something similar in Access?

So anytime a record has anything changed, updated etc, the date is noted. Then when there's a problem with something changed on, say, May 31, I can very easily find all files worked on on May 31?

Hopefully ...

As far as I am aware there is no way of tracking this automatically in access without adding your own logging.

If there is a way then I'll gladly eat my words, since using this forum I've always been amazed at what can be achieved in access when I didn't think it was possible.

Many thanks, Hay, all noted. Of course, MileOPhile, just down the highway from you, has a stock of never-before-known ideas.

Otherwise, I'll hope to borrow your method. Cheers.

Yes always got a few tricks up his sleeve that one!!

I believe he doesn't go by that name anymore, he's turned all professional on us ;)

One step ahead of the law, it's said.

My ears are burning....

Is it just to update one field every time a change is made to the record or to create a complete trail of every change that's made to a record?

Something I do, sometimes, is to create two fields in my table called DateCreated and LastUpdated. The first's DefaultValue is set to Now(). The form's BeforeUpdate() event is used to set the latter to Now().

Hi SJ - I didn't get a notification of yours, so I've just found it. Yes, sounds good.

What I've discovered, and came back to tell Hayley_Baxter is to put

Me.UpdateTime = Now
DoEvents

on the form's beforeupdate. It works really well.

Now I see that's what you are suggesting. Course, we knew you'd know. All the best SJ, aka MoP. Cheers

For more control you might want to consider adding an Audit Trail to your tables. Check this thread out and see how easy it is to add my sample to your database. Do not let the number of replies scare you for the Audit Trail just happens to be a popular thread.

Many thanks, GHudson. Looks really interesting. Have 'borrowed' it from the url - nearly 1000 views! - and will have a good study of it a little later. Cheers
