Referencing a subform

I need to reference a subform from it's main form to change the AllowAdditions property. I can't seem to get it right. I've tried Forms!MainForm!SubForm.AllowAdditions=True... I keep getting a message box saying that the subform does not exist.
Am I missing something vital in my understanding ?
