A few months ago I secured my Access database with various user permissions using the security wizard. It created for me three additional files:
- a snapshot file (.snp)
- a security file (.mdw)
- and a shortcut file used to open the database

Worked fine, up until today. I tried moving everything to a another computer and modifying the shortcut parameters to point to the new location. Didn't work. Complained about not have the appropriate user rights.

So, back on the original PC I set it up on, I thought about removing the security altogether then copying the unsecured db to the new computer then starting again. I followed this guide:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa141436(office.10).aspx

The problem is that now I can't even access my original db. By removing the passwords, as instructed above, it complains that I not have the appropriate privileges.

In my snapshot file, in red writing at the top of the page, it says I can use the information contained within to regain access to my secured database in the event of corruption.

Can anyone suggest how I might go about this?

Thanks in advance

Eureka!

I have discovered that by deleting the database, starting again from scratch, and vowing never again to implement MS security was the perfect solution.

lucky you kept the print out

you cant reconstruct the .mdw file without the correct PIDs - Access secuirity is OK, but you need to be sure you understand what you are doing - as it is easy to lock yourself out.
