I have replicated my Access 2002 database and moved a copy to my laptop. (on a wireless network) - so far so good.

Here's the problem l can replicate FROM my PC to my LAPTOP - GREAT !!!

I can't replicate the other way

My PC is running XP and my laptop is running 2000.

Does anyone have any ideas ? i have a feeling it is probably some security setting in XP but l'll be damned if l can find it.

Thanks

Not exactly certain but

You can replicate out from a "Master" to a "Replica" You cannot replicate a "Replica" to a "Master". Think that you are looking to "Synchronise". Check the Help files cos not sure myself.

Sorry bad terminology on my part.

I am talking about Synchronising, i can synchronise form master to replica - PC (XP) to Laptop (MS2000) but not the other way around.

I am completely baffled.

I believe that the process is to synchronise master and replica's is always fired from the Master

Does the Help not explain the process more fully

Len,

I think you have got the wrong end of the stick according to all l have read repication / synchronising is a twl way system that allows either the master or rteplica to update any others within the replica set.

The only advantage the master has is its ability to allow more fundamental changes and for it to have priority status in any conflicts.

Replication / synchronisiation should work either way.

Since I've got a database that is replicated (in many places), I tested whether or not you could start the synch process from the replicant. You can. So, my question would be, are you sure that your laptop has sufficient rights on your PC? That would be one thing to stop it.

With regards to rights - could you please explain ?

I do not understand what you are alluding too.

THe situation is l am the author of the DB and have full admin rights it is my laptop and l am logging in as me when l access the DB.

Does this cover the rights issue or is there something else l have missed ?

(also l am sure that the Master DB is closed when l try to synchronise)

THe error message does state something about access rights but l thought l had it covered.

I await your reply with bated breath !!!

The directory where the master resides on your PC, if you are going to synch from outside that computer, needs to be shared with read/write access available for you. If you are on a domain, then you can restrict access to just you, but that folder needs to allow your laptop to access it and do updates, hence the read/write access.

Thank you so much !!!!!

What it turned out to be is that a tick box to allow network users to modify my file has to be ticked and it all worked.

It so easy when you know how !!!!!

Thanks again
