I hope I put this in the right place, but I have a problem.

I made a report from a Query, and in the report footer I have a unbound text box with this expression. =Sum([Estimated Time]) I run the report and this is the error I get.

"The expression is typed incorrectly, or its to complex to be evaluated. Example a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements."

I also have another unbound text box with the following expression

=Sum([Actual Time])

And it works great. All the data in the Estimated Time field is manually entered just like the actual time. All information is in the same table.

I just don't understand.

Please send help.

Thanks,
Pujo

Check "Data type" and "Format" of "Estimated Time" field.

I Checked the "Data type" and the "Format" of "Estimated Time" field.
Everything is the same for both fields.

I tried putting the expression on the Page footer instead of the Report Footer, and all it shows when the report is ran is ERROR in the area where the sum should be. Go Figure.

Please help if you can.
Thanks,
God Bless

If anyone wants to try and help me figure things out with this. I will be glad to send you the file. The file is 1.24 megs. and too large to add to this site.

So if you are feeling up to it and want to give this a try, send email to knormand@wqaccuratela.com and I will reply with the file.
Thanks,
God Bless

Send a short example via this forum.

I will try, but not sure how to break it down so that you will still have what it needs. I will try another way today. What about a file host site. That may work

I'll see what I can do.

I can not get the file small enough to get on this site, but I found another problem that may be linked to the original problem.

Ok, So I have a report based from a query, There is a name criteria, then date criteria. So when this report is ran, it asked for "Name", the "beginning date" and "ending date". If I only set the date for 3, or 4 days the the report works fine. It will give me a total =Sum([Actual Time]). If go longer than 3, or 4 days I get the error. "The expression is typed incorrectly, or its to complex to be evaluated. Example a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements."

This is the same thing that is happening with the =Sum([Estimated Time])

Is it possible that there are to many numbers to calculate? That is what is sound like. But it couldn't be, I just don't understand.

If anyone can shed some light on this please do.

Report footer
=Sum([Estimated Time]) =Sum([Actual Time])

Hey gang,
I figured it out. While looking through the data, I found that some one had entered an estimated time of B.E. (Break Even) So this is why I could not get it to sum the field. Thanks for everyone that helped in this matter.
Great Forum.

God Bless.
