right now i have a form that displays information from a GENERAL table and then 4 other subreports.

i have set the master and child values of all the subreports to a unique value HistNum that is set throughout the database.

however, none of the subreports appear.

also, when i make a test report and do the exact same thing with GENERAL, and i.e. ReferringMD (as in doctor), it works perfectly fine

what property of my first report could cause it to not work correctly?

What kind of relationship you have between the general table and four other table?

Also, have you tried to make a report with only one subreport using same criteria; does that work?

all the tables are related by a history number that is unique to each medical patient. (HistNum)

yes, i have tried with just 1 subreport and it works. that wouldnt make a difference would it?

So, you have an one-one relationship? If that is so, does all records have same IDs or may there be gaps? I'm thinking that if there are a subtable that doesn't have the ID, it will go blank.

Also, to clarify, are your subreports laid out in the report or nested in a stack inside subreports? You want it to be laid out at all same depth.

Code:
laid out is

Report
SubreportA
SubreportB
SubreportC

all are linked to the Report

nested is

Report
   SubreportA (linked to Report)
       SubreportB (linked to SubreportA)
           SubreportC (linked to SubreportB)

all the records are linked by their history number. these numbers are 7 digits.

for example.. Patient A has the number 1234567

in the GENERAL table, all their personal information is kept. in Diagnosis, their diagnosis of Disease A is stored along with some other information using HistNum. in DRUGS1 their prescriptions for DrugA and DrugB are stored using HistNum. lastly, in RefMD their doctor, Dr. Medicine is kept using HistNum.

the report is laid out like this:

Report (GENERAL values)
Sub1 (RefMD values)
Sub2 (Medication values)
Sub3 (Diagnosis values)

when the report is filtered to HistNum 1234567, it should appear like this:

Person A, address, city, state, homephone, etc..
**********
Dr. Medicine, his address, phone and fax, etc
**********
DrugA, its drugcode and notes
* * * *
DrugB, its drugcode and notes
**********
Disease A, its diagnosis code, effects, etc

which confuses me, i dont understand why it doesn't work

wow it was a really strange problem that was stopping it from working..

a textbox with the value "=[GENERAL.HistNum]" instead of "=[HistNum]" stopped everything else on the report from working.. thanks for your help

just fyi, when working with text boxes, you should surround fields/tables with quotes and then put an excimation point between them i.e.

[GENERAL]![HistNum]

or have the form bound to the table, and just use the fieldname
