Report sorting problem

When I sort my report from a combo field it does not sort alphabetically; rather it sorts by another means first. Help?

Hi there,

Is your report based on a query first of all? Do you have other fields in this query that are sorted as well? If so, make sure the field you want to sort by first, appears in the query before the second field you want to sort by. Your report will sort in order of how your fields appear in the query.

The report is based on a table. I did try using a query and then create the report; same result. I did try reordering the columns and had no luck. Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorting on a combo box

Hmmm...always easier to see and fix, but what if you change the combo box to a text box maybe? There is no need for a combo box in a report as you can't change data anyway. I have another idea but have to run for lunch.

Sorting and Grouping

My other idea, is on the toolbar, there is a sorting & Grouping icon, select this, and make sure this combo box is in that list. If it is but isn't first in this list, select it and then click on the item and hold the left mouse button and drag it up to the top. This will insure the sorting and grouping on this report is first by your combo box, and then it will sort on other items in the order you specified.
