Could anyone advise me the best route or where to look for samples / advise to producing a query/report. That will produce totals for a specific period ie Weekly / Monthly etc and that those totals can be transfered into another table (without the underling data) so various graphs can be pulled from that table.

Try using the Report Wizard on one of your tables and then look at the Report's properties.

Look at the Northwind MDB that comes with Access, it probably has some reports.

Thanks for that, but I have created the basic reports which sub-totals on specific points ie dates, channel id, and then totals on them. What I need is to be able to export the sub totals and totals only into another table / report? from my report.

at least I think thats what I want?

You need to use Total Queries and grouping by Week or Month on a date field.

Use an expression in a select query first like...

For month you may need two..
MyMonth:Format([MyDateField],"m") 'To sort correctly

And for display.....
MyMonth:Format([MyDateField],"mmm")

But do they need to be exported to a table?

You can create charts from queries which will always have the latest data unlike the tables

Thanks but I dont think I'm explaining myself correctly:

I have several thousand orders per week which are directed between 9 channels of business. I need to show a graph week by week and month by month, showing the no. of orders to each channel. I can run a query which will output to a report which gives the correct grouping etc but I need to store (i think) the totals so as to produce my running totals graph.

period, orders, ch1, ch2, ch3, ch4, etc etc.

thanks for taking the time to help

Steve

You should be able to calculate the totals with a Totals Query the way I mentioned above. Then base your graph reports on these queries
