Resigned

Don't tell anyone, but I had three wonderful months working in Compiegn a few years ago

have a great time

Good luck to you Ron!

Thanks Cindy

Do you mind if I ask why you're moving? Are you not happy in NL? Why did you pick France? Have you visited there much? Do you have a job lined up already?

Sorry if I'm being too nosy .....

Not at all.

We bought a house in France some 7 years ago and decided to move
there when the appropriate time would come. France as such has always been our second home country, so moving to there is not such a big thing for us.
One of the prime reasons for leaving NL is that we can't cope ( anymore) with the endless battle of fighting over each square inch ( huge population density) and the government trying to sort of control that by making new laws to "protect" the country and it's inhabitants.
We figure that France has more to give, better environment, more relaxed style of living ( better jazz musicians), and all that ; hence the move.
From a business prospective, we both have sufficient oppertunities , but will
slow down a bit and do those assignments we really like.
Certainly, France has it's pro's and con's in comparison with NL , but looking at all facts and figures, we feel we made the right decision.

Note :
I'm not sure if office 2007 has already reached France and what the French version will look like one can only dream ! :)

Ahhh Compiegne, now that's close to the department du Champagne. I'll bet you had a great time there :D

Good luck on your move and your new life.

Where in France will you be living (it's a large country). I generally spend a week or two in Normandy when I can get away.

Ah. Thanks for answering. :D

I'm just curious usually because it seems like such a big decision to me, to move to another country. I must say I wasn't aware of NL's population problems...

Hope you enjoy yourselves in your new home. :)

It's not all that different from you guys moving to another state a couple of states away;)

Is it really similar to that though? We can move a couple of states way and not have to go through citizenship problems or anything like that. Would you run into any problems with citizenship moving from NL to France?

I think now we can go to any country in the EU we like, they can certainly come here, you see our glorious EU leaders want to scrap country borders and have just one super state:mad:

The biggest problem we have come across is health insurance. All EU countries use different systems and have different methods. If one of us have a regular income per year, we can subscribe to the French Secu
( Social health insurance) and subscribe for an added insurance with one of the local insurance companies.
Second thing is that of country taxes. Generally taxes in france are considerable lower than those in NL, but we still have to pay some ( income ) taxes in NL, since part of our income will come thru Dutch channels.

Hi Ron

Good luck with the move. Which part of France are you off to? I'll be driving from Calais to Italy via la Rochelle, the Charente, Arles and the coast road through Monte in early May and back via Switzerland and Reims later on. I could look in and drop you off my latest cd! We might even convert you to proper music (rock blues) instead of this jazz stuff. :D:D

Look forward to a progress report when you're both settled. Cheers Barry

Hi Barry, we're moving to the Lot ( department 46).
I assume you're passing by Bordeaux - Toulouse - Provence to Italy, well just open your windows close to Toulouse and you'll hear those magic sounds of
jazz/bebop/metal/blues/hop , in the distance. :D

Look forward to a progress report when you're both settled. Cheers Barry

Will keep you guys posted !

Ron:
check to see if France and NL have a tax treaty for individuals.
If so, pay your lower taxes in France and you're covered for both countries.

Been there, done that....

Thanks anyway

It's a bit late, I know, but congratulations! Or should I say, felicitations! Oh, you're making me wish that we were back there now.

Maybe I missed it...but resigned from what?

Regards,
Tim

Post 1 (hard to find)

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I resigned from my current job, as my wife and I will emigrate to France.
I will work some more days here in the Office and leave per March 20.
We will move to France somewhere beginning of May and hopefully be operational in France the 3rd week of May.
So I will probably be less of help during the coming weeks, but will catch up
later in spring.

See you,
Ron
