Rookie question

Someone created a database for our firm. I opened the form and want to add a record, but the asterik area for a new record is grayed out. I have right clicked in design view and looked in properties, but found nothing to inhibit adding new records.

In Design view, check on the form's properties that AllowAdditions is set to Yes.
