Runtime '6' overflow

I've had a telephone message database operating for about 3 years and have never deleted a message, it is just accepted or left pending, there are nearly 23,000 pieces of data on the table on over 3200 lines.
The above message appeared when I tried to accept a message from the front end and (simple as I am!!) I assumed that there was too much data in the table. However, having deleted a load and put less back in its place it has not stopped the error appearing and a couple of seconds after it appears access terminates.
The strange thing is I can go into old messages and accept them without a problem so it seems to be something happening today.
I've done a compact and repair but that made no difference.
Having only worked on this database, I'm not too experienced with error messages and would appreciate a hand from someone who knows. Thanks.

Overflow USUALLY refers to a single variable/field with a limited capacity, where you are trying to put in a number that is too big for the field's stated range.

For instance, if you have an Integer field and try to store a number like 80,000 in it, you couldn't. You would get the overflow. Integers are limited to 32,767.

Perhaps one of the data fields is mis-formatted so that it looks like a longer number than it really should. Or perhaps you have an autonumbering scheme that has reached a limit.

Without more information on the field actually tripping the overflow, it will be hard to give specific advice.

Run time "6" Overflow

Thanks very much. We had exceeded our autonumber limit, which must be why it didn't make any difference deleting the records until we had sorted out what the next autonumber would be! Appreciate your help.
