In a previous thread I mentioned I am looking for another job. My main field is environmental education and working with youth outdoors, but I am interested in computers and programing.

If I were to get a job working with databases--either as consultant on the side or working for a company in IT--what is the salary range that I should be looking for? What is the high and what is the low?

Thanks!

So much depends on that question, not the least of all what is your location, experience, education

True. Location is pretty broad since I am most likely going to be moving. Where, I don't know, but I'm aiming to stay in north eastern USA or move to the west coast.

As for experience and education; as I mentioned I am really an environmental educator (teaching people about nature, animals, etc.) but I have experience working in computer repair, troubleshooting, and for the past 2 years have been creating from scratch, managing and utilizing a complex database as part of my current job at a zoo. Plus I have experience in web and graphic design.

So to sum everything up: I know enough to get things done but I don't have much formal training.

If I go this route it would either be for small local companies that need a part-time consultant or it would be a full time job in IT/administration at a zoo or similar facility.

The above answer is absolutely correct. If you are talking access - I would guess anywhere around average wage. Lower or higher. You may get "lucky" and find a niche paying higher. than that.

If you are going to be an IT professional and want paying - Access is not the best route.

Its designed to be desktop, so too many people use it as a tool and have no particular skill, therefore in lots of places it will be paid accordingly.

Bit like Excel - can pay well, but generally for most users not.

Try a jobs site and see what out there.

I'd do SQL or Oracle. - Or better again Dentist!

Better yet, become a banker

No, I shall not join the evils which is the banking/investment/trading system!

...That is of course I get to take them down from the inside... Muhaahhaahhaa! For mine is an evil laugh!
