I want to save generated reports as an external file in order to submit electronically (such as an email attachment).

I have found the only possibility for saving the report is in rich text format which removes all graphics formating from the original report design.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to be able to create an external file from the report that retains the database appearance of the report?

I am using A97 (unfortunately) but have found the same problem in A2K.

Thanks.

Paul

Though I've never used them, Access (2000 and above, I think) supports a snapshot format. If you right-click a report name in the database window and choose Export..., see if you have the snapshot format as one of the file formats. Your recipients will need the SnapShot viewer. I think it's available free from Microsoft. I'll check some more and post again with more info.

Saving reports

There is a nice site, www.pdf995.com, that has a .pdf report creator. What their program(s) do is to take your Access report, with or without graphics and output it to a .pdf format. Using their two programs, I was able to both create an external file (with formatting!!), and also to send the converted .pdf file via e-mail to a recipient. I recommend checking out their site. Just keep in mind that as Adobe changes releases, this site might or might not "keep up," so to speak. In any case, I liked what I saw.

Good luck!:)

Thanks to all responses. They were very helpful.

Greaseman,

I can't get the link to the PDF site to work (unresolved host name). Any ideas?

Tay, try this for your link

Tay,

Not sure why it didn't work. The full address is:
http://www.pdf995.com

I tried the link I placed in the previous post, and you are right...id didn't work. However, when I used the Google search engine, it did work!!

In any case, if all else fails, try entering the full address.

Good luck!

Thank you!
I did try typing the address in before as well, but the same error came up. Weird.

Have you had any luck yet?

Tay,

Couldn't tell by your last post if you had success getting to the site..... have you been able to get to them yet? You can always type in pdf995 on a search engine and then try their links. Anyway, was just curious to see about your success (or lack of).

Original link included a comma after the ".com" Take off the comma and it rolls right up.

Thanks!

Thank you, gorellb!!

You mean..... my computer doesn't type what I think?? ;) Thank you for having better eyes than me! It's appreciated.

Reached the site ok, thank you.
It looks promising, and I downloaded and unzipped the first file, but I can't install it as I don't have administrative rights to add a printer. Oh well.

No printer?

Tay, what about adding the printer as a local printer? I don't think you need administrative rights to do that. Good luck again!

I think even a local printer installation requires a change to the registry which requires admin rights.

What code do you use to save it as a pdf file? I've been saving my reports as snapshots but would like to allow the user to choose between an *.snp or *.pdf? I do have pdf995.

What kind of setup would the user need if they don't have pdf995?

How to use pdf995....

Actually, you don't need code to save the report. You do need both pdf995 and pdf995edit. When you run pdf995 through pdf995edit, a virtual printer gets created that will show up in your printers folder. Within pdf995edit, you can then specify the output print file name, and you can also specifiy if your e-mail should automatically be activated in order to attach a copy of your output .pdf report and then e-mail it to whoever you want.

The online documentation for both pdf995 and pdf995edit are also pretty good. If I could figure it out, it had to be pretty good! Take your time with the documentation and before you know it, you'll have the pdf995 products working well with your Access application.

Have fun and good luck!
