Hoping that someone can guide me in the right direction with the following problem.
I'm trying to create a schedule subform, which would show fields for :
1)Time-in 1/2 hr intervals from 8AM to 2PM
2)room numbers 1 to 4
3}a field to enter/display customer name and service planned for each time and room #.
The subform would display these fields for a given calendar date (as set by Form![CalDate]).

I know that I've seen Db's like this, but damned if I can figure out how to do it in a way that data can be entered into such a situation while, at the same time, it is displaying already filled fields.
Note that even a setup for only one room would be a good start!

Richard,

Definitely a different mapping of form to table data here. Just took a
shot at doing something different. Can't really say that this is the
way to go, but it should give you an idea.

Didn't try to make it look good, and it has some rough edges.

Rooms.mdb sure looks good to me! Thanx.
Bytheway, you sent 2 attachments of rooms, zip. Are they identical?

Richard,

No, I guess it was "mouse bounce" and I couldn't delete the second one.

I think in a lot of apps, the schedule would have been a subform, but I
thought it would be nice to try something more visual. Since I made it
so fast, I took the easy way out and put the "Save" button.

If I was going to spend some time on it, I'd:

a) Make a seperate table for the people
b) Make a seperate table for the functions
c) Get rid of the save button
d) Set an invisible flag to detect if any changes were made and when they
left the form, or switched days, I'd ask them if they wanted to save.

I hope it gets you started, it was really nice to put something "different"
together.

Let me know how you get on with it,
Wayne

That .mdb sounds interesting! Can you provide it in Access 97 format? Thanks! :)

greaseman,

Glad to provide it.

I only spent an hour or so on it. It'd be nice to see someone evolve it
and post it back here. It could definitely look better and there are
some other things I mentioned earlier that would make it better.

Thank you so much! I'll take a look at it. My boss wants something (he is seldom specific) that will provide a "quick glance" to tell him who is available or tied up with different activities, and of course, he wants it by Friday. BTW, he hates MS Project. And, no hopes of upgrading beyond Access 97.

Whatever..... thanks again for your quick reply. It's appreciated!

Wayne,
I couldn't open the form..... got an error message about.... "Can't open the form." Please reference the attached screen shot. Any ideas?

1)Yes, of course it would be a subform to a "calendar".
2)Separate table for people is only good if you have all appropriate info for these people to be able to enter them into the Db table. For new clients not yet seen, its easier to just set it up as a table. Depends on how you want the schedule to operate.
Of note, I never learned VB , so I have to switch the code to access (AC2).

It's most interesting that this app is so useful, but you're the first who ever made it so easy. Most of the 'schedules' that I've seen have elaborate crosstab queries behind them, and damned if I can figure out how to enable entries as you did.
