Hi All

I have a serious issue with accessing our system. All users are all suddenly getting the same error message "You do not have permission to access C:\ProgramFiles\xxx.mdb. Please contact your system administrator".

Nothing has changed on the network with permissions so looks like it is possibly a damaged .mdw file. I can still access the data via the be.mdb and the data looks ok.

Is this a corrupt .mdw file and can it be repaired. If it can't be repaired do I need to create a new security file?

thanks for any help.

While creating a new Workgroup Information File you need to provide three basic information:

Name:
Organization:
WorkgroupID:

Check the attached image.

These are Administrator provided information (and part of the Access Security Token) and they must be kept safely somewhere, in case you need to recreate your Workgroup Information File.

  1. Besides that, the Admin user account must be removed from the Admins Group Account, after creating a new Adminitrator account for yourself(under Admins Group account and it is extremely important to do this step, otherwise you will not be able to enter into your database).
  2. Next step is to strip off all access rights to the Users Group Account.

The above steps are followed before creating new User/Group Accounts for adding more Users to the Workgroup Information File. Each User or Group Account will have a Name, PersonalID and a password. Group Accounts will not have any password they are created to organize Users into different group and Access Rights are assigned at UserGroup-level. Users added to a particular group inherits access rights assigned to that Group Account.
