Be Gentle My Learned Friends...Neophyte Learning the Ropes...

I am seeking to be able to add a Select All function to a QBF Form. I now select multiple options from Combo Boxes and would like to have one-click, one-selection ease for users to select all within one Combo Box.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

A combo box, by its very nature, allows you to select only one value from it. You could add a choice which says "All" to the list of items in the combo box, then specially handle it. You can also change your control to a multiselect listbox which will easily allow you to select all the items.

Thanks dcx,
I've now made a small dummy database using List Boxes rather than Combo Boxes and can select multiples from my Issue Owners list.

One further question, if you have time...
I am using QBF to drive this query and wanted to select multiples of many lists for query parameters. When I switch to List Boxes and set Multiples, my Form datasheet views do not show multiple entries from the list selected. Once I select and deselect items from the list or try to select multiples, I have no entries at all in the datasheet view of this form from my list.

Once again...I'm a novice, but learning. Have I missed something within the list box properties that is intefering with these values being displayed in the datasheet view once I select multiples or deselect then reselect?

Thanks,
Dan

The thing with multiselect listboxes is that they are, quite simply, very different in many ways from regular single-select listboxes. Because they can store multiple values, they cannot be bound controls (meaning they are not directly linked to fields in the form's underlying query or table). After all, if the listbox were to be linked directly to a field in your table, how would multiple selections get stored? You can't squeeze more than one value into a field. Understand?

It's not impossible to store those values, you'll just need another structure for doing it. If the relationship between that field and the selections sounds like a one-to-many relation, you're right. You'll need another table just to hold those multiple selections. I'm sure you have questions. Think over it, then write back. :)

Combo Box: Multiselect

dcx,
Thanks for your reply and advice.

I get impatient with myself when I'm learning something new...I want to have the background and understanding that will happen over time...

I'll do some more research so I understand the goodies under the hood a bit better.

Thanks,
Dan
