Selecting Using Text Data

Our application is a school gradebook whose primary data is classes and grades. A datum on each class record is "School Year" which is used to group and sort records for report cards and other reports.

An offical transcript goes back 4 years, and this is tripping me up.

A School Year is not a calendar year, it is "2008-2009" and the data is stored this way as text.

At the end of this school year a transcript would include data from the year "2006-2007" through the year "2009-2010".

I can't figure out how to automatically select the last four years.

Any help is appreciated.

When you want to select part of a Text string, the functions Left(), Right(), Mid(), Instr(), and InstrRev() can prove very useful. Look up how they are used and I am sure you will find what you want. If not, post back for additional assistance.
