Here is the scenario:
I am the head office
5 People need to have access to database - but only certain parts of it. Just the forms. Form A goes to person A etc. I need to set up passwords for each person on the different forms. I am having a hard time establishing passwords - I have tried many times and have locked myself out many times. Is there something that is easy and clear cut as to what I need to be doing. Step by step instructions would be great. I appreciate all the help.

Hi Michayla. I'll send you a demo that your might be able to adapt. There is a pasword field and a department field in the table and each user has a different password/department. When they click the button to move to another switchboard they get the password dialog box with a combo box. The combo box is set to only show names for users from a specific department. If they aren't on the list they can't get any further, if they are on the list they need to put in the appropriate password to continue. Normally I leave all my menus open in the background for easy access but in this case I don't. When the user clicks to go back to the main menu the menu they were on closes so they can't get to it through the Windows option on the menu bar. You will also need to disable the startup functions so they can't get to the Database window. Remember that F11 brings back the window but don't tell them that! The next step would be to disable the F11 key if the users know about it. That's the next stage!

Hello DBL,

Is there any chance you could send me a copy as well?

Sorry to pester you, but I have been trying to achieve this without success.

Many Thanks

Paul.

I would like to join the chorus of "please send me that too". Trying to set up a database that needs to limit access to most users. THanks!

If you are having trouble implementing the security utility within Access and want to figure out why you are going to have to read the MS Faq's. No way around it. Security impelementation is too complex just to follow the "wizard". Don't skim thru, don't read a little then do, you must read the whole thing. Yes, all 40+ pages. After you've read it once read it again. Then read the other attachment by Jack MacDonald which simplifies everything a little bit. Then you will be a security guru!

Hi DBL,

it' a long time ago you posted that message about setting passwords with a piece of code you were sending the requester.

With a forum search I came across this posts and would be now also very interested in this code. Are you still having it and could you please send it to me as well.

Thank you.
