First let me say I understand sorting and grouping, and if I use the "Create" button I get a nice green Report Layout Tools with a Grouping and Sorting button.

But in an existing report I cannot find the way to display either that button or the pane at the end of the report which allows setting sorting and grouping.
All I have is

Please someone tell me what silly mistake I'm making before it drives me even further round the bend.
Thanks

Hi. Welcome to AWF!

Does it become available as one of the choices if you right click on the report?

Also I apologise for posting a question about a Form in the Report section.
I told you it was driving me mad!

Well, that could be the problem. Forms don't have a grouping and sorting feature like reports do.

So, are we really talking about a form or a report?

It is a form.
So can I not group and get totals on form? Only a report?

That's correct. You can't group and totals on a form like you can on a report. However, you can still use the Sum() function on a form to create a total value.

Actually, it is possible to group on a form...though not usually simple to setup.

In order to group items on a form, you will probably need to use a subquery as part of the form's record source together with some conditional formattting.
For example, look at the solution I provided in post #19 of this thread where events were grouped by date:
SubReport on Form | Access World Forums (access-programmers.co.uk)

Thanks isladogs (thumbs up for Labrador).
Now I know it's not available I'll work round it but it was driving me mad trying to find it.
