Is there a good place to find free (or very affordable) production-ready databases? Something I could download and use, then tweak as I need to?

Northwind database.

With the new version, you can choose a template of databases like
Event Management, Time and Billing, etc.

Any other sites besides the templates that are built-in? I'm interested in looking at how others have developed db's for various business needs. Thanks!

I imagine textbooks bundled with CDs will be a rich source of premade databases ready for real world implications.

Also try Microsoft web sites. They often offer free databases (I know they have 5 for those wanting to learn asp.net).

If you have already exhausted those, then try making time with local agencies, meeting with their managers, and seeing what they offer.
