I am using Office 97 in an NT environment.

Trying to build a macro to import grades from a fixed width text file. Can't figure out what to put in the arguments box where it asks for "specification name". I found it in an old 1.1 book and it is supposed to allow you to put in the number, name, and lengths of the fields.

But for the life of all of us here, we can't figure out how it works in this version. Any help or hints are greatly appreciated.

you can set up your own import specifications to make sure that access imports the file exactly as you want with youo own field names and types etc.

To do this, go through the motions of manually importing the file with all of your preferences regarding field names, types, delimeters etc, right up until you see the 'Next' button go grey, then click 'Advanced' and 'Save As' - you can then name it whatever you like, and it's this name that you put in the 'Specification Name' argument.
