Greetings all, sorry about the long absence, I've been overseas and quite busy.

When building a client/server application, is it normal to place all queries in the backend?

Does it really matter if they sit in the backend, or should they reside in the frontend?

Thanks in advance as usual.

Shep,

If queries were in the back end, then how would you use a query from a front end ?

Queries, forms, modules, etc should be in the front end.

Hi Rich

Well, I've been out of the loop for a long while, having fun in the tropics so I had this (probably dumb) idea that queries stay in the backend, and one simply links to them in the frontend, perhaps?

Of course, I've never seen it done that way, but I haven't seen very many databases, other than my own heh heh.

Thanks, Rich

If Access is used as the backend file .... nothing but the tables and relational join information goes there.

Everything else resides in the frontend file.

Yeah, forgive me for not remembering that basic principle, but 3 months of doing nothing constructive sure can take it's toll.

I'll try to think a little before rushing in with a dumb question next time.

ahh but it hurts to be back in the workforce...
