Splitting Values In A Field

I have a field - Period in the format YYYYMM.

How can I split this value so that I only extract YYYY?

Datepart function for a date, or Left function for a string.

If the value in that field is really a date then you can use the format function if you just want to change how it is viewed in a form or report.

Format([YourDateField],"YYYY")
