It should be obvious that I was talking about static queries which are far and away the bulk of the queries in any application..

That depends on the style of the developer. I work with databases where a subform recordset would start with half a million records if I used the usual LinkFields construction. I get orders of magnitude better performance with dynamic RecordSource queries, though I have now moved on to recordsets based on Server Stored Procedures because they respond instantly
