Interesting comment:

The spokesman said experts thought the attack may have been linked to the mating season or because the squirrel was ill.

There's no mention of them checking to see if it had Rabies (which would be classified as the squirrel being ill, I would think). That would be my first thing to check for if a squirrel bit me like that.

A friend of mine grabbed a squirrel by the tail one day, the thing jumped on it's back Matrix style and slashed him across his chest. He still has scars years later from the incident. It left three separate slash marks down his chest. These things are not nice! Granted, he did grab it by surprise...

Don't forget that squirrels are just a cute version of the same family that rats belong to. They are also wild animals. My brother was attacked by a squirrel when he was a baby.
