Still on security . . .

Hi all.

When I try to look at the security settings for my DB, I receive the error message

Record(s) cannot be read; no read permission on 'MSysAccounts'

My view settings are set to display all hidden tables etc, but I can't see this object anywhere. Does anyone know what / where it is?

Are you using Win 2K or above on a network? If so the It people can have you locked out of the registry which sometimes create problems when working with security functions of Access.

Is this Access security? And you are trying Tools - Security...Yes?

A little more detail would help.

I have another question, related to security.

The MS FAQ site on Access security states that the location of the wrkgadm.exe application used to change workgroup differs in each version of Access. For instance;

Access 97 - C:\Windows\System
2000 - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033

In 2002 however, you can change your workgroup affiliation from within the application. As I understand it you are unable to do this from within '97.

So - is this the only method of changing your workgroup affiliation in Access 2002? I have wrkgadm.exe present in my C:\WinNT\system32 folder, but changing the settings via this application seem to have no effect on actual workgroup settings. Where is the 2002 wrkgadm.exe?

Sorry about the repeated security questions, but my knowledge is going to be put to the test in the near future so I'd like to gen up as much as possible.

I wouldn't think so. Use Windows Explorer to search for wrkgadm.exe. By clicking on it from within Explorer it should open. However, I do not have A2002.

You can also build a shortcut that contains the workgroup in the command line. look up command line parameters in help file for how to do this

Right, I've ran a couple of searchs for the wrkgdme application and the only one present is in c winnt system32. Joining various workgroups via this has no effect when you check the workgroup settings through Access itself. As well as this, Access 2002 help make no mention of a seperate workgroup application. I think it's redundant and this version has been left behind from Access 97.

This is actually a bit easier than a seperate application - though you have to remember to open Access itself seperately rather than a shortcut to a particular database.
