How do I make the information from several tables all feed into one report? I tried using subreports but so far the second report appears ON TOP of the first report. I figure there is some way to create a second "detail" section so the records from the second report appear after the records from the first.... But so far in Help I can only figure out how to add section headers/footers and the like, not detail sections. Please help.

It sounds like you need to have two subreports on one main report. Just put one subreport after the other within the detail section of the main report.

still not solved..

thanks alisa. i still can't get all the records from each individual report to appear. i basically have several "flat" tables that are not linked to each other. they list various resources in our social services area (e.g., anger management, psychiatrists, support groups, etc.). i am tryint to create a resource manual. so i need all the 10 psychiatrists to list, then all the 15 groups to list, then all the 8 detox clinics to list, etc.... I'm stuck. thanks!

Do you have a report for each resource? That would be the first step. Once you have a report for each resource, just add each one as a subreport on another blank report.

yes each resource is its own report. but when i open a new blank report and insert the existing reports as subreports, either the listings overlap each other on the page making it unreadable or all the separate entries from each individual report do not appear. i'm sure i'm doing something simple wrong. i just don't know what...

First of all make sure the subreports are not overlapping. Then make sure the "can grow" property on the subreport container is set to yes. When you open the subreports separately (not on the main report), are all of the records visible?

is this something i have to program in? i'm not seeing the cangrow property in the property list (when i double-click the box on upper left corner of subreport control.

oh i just found it. but it is already set to yes... i looked in the properties of the detail section.

Make sure you have selected the subreport container, not the subreport. If the focus is on the main report, and you click once on the subreport, you will get the container. If you click twice, you will get the subreport itself. The CanGrow property is on the format tab of the properties.

Did you find the can grow property on the subreport container?

i think i'm clicking the container. i followed your directions. it's all set to YES for CANGROW. any other thoughts?? so frustrating. i'm sure it's so so so easy...

Do the reports look correct when you open them by themselves?

Can you post a picture of what they look like on the main form?

oh!! i added a page break between the subreports and i think that might have done the trick!

thank you so so so much alisa for your attention to this. i was going bonkers.

updating sub-reports

I've created a main report with numerous subreports. However, I then had to make some formatting changes to the original reports that are the data sources for the subreports. Now when I open the main report, the formatting updates do not appear. Is there a way to "pull" these formatting updates into the main report? Like, to "refresh" the subreports?

What type of changes did you make? The changes should have carried over as long as you saved them.

i added a text box, changed the setting on the page header to appear only when there's no report header, straightened out some lines that were a bit crooked, made the report header a bit smaller. if i open the individual reports, i see the changes so i know they are saved. but i don't see the changes in the full report i've created as a composite of subreports...
