Hi,

I'm testing out a db design where there is a subform that is based on the junction record table(so it's a m:m relationship).three tables in total, lab, test approval and record.

PLease see the attached. Only 3 records, but the subform won't show the relationship between the two tables.....In fact, the subform shows nothing....

I have checked everything, making sure the master/child linkages are on the lab_num....but no luck and I don't know if I've fallen into the trap of using lookups.....but with a m:m I can't think of any other way around it.....

Please any guidance is helpful. I"m pulling my hair out on this one....

The way this is typically done is that you create a main form based on one of the parent tables, then you add a subform that is based on the junction table. The Master/Child link should be whichever field is PK/FK for the relationship between those two tables, then you use combo boxes in the subform. The combo boxes are bound to the fields in the juntion table and they display ("lookup") the associated value from the other parent table. Combo boxes ("lookups") are only a "trap" if you use them in a table. Using them in forms is the proper place, so if that's what you're doing then there's nothing to worry about.

This sounds like generally what you've done based on your description, but I can't be sure so I'm just offering this explanation to clarify the process.

Also, just a tip, if you're using A2007 or later and you're going to attach a copy of your db, you should create a copy and save it as a .mdb file if possible. A lot of folks out there (like me) are still using A2003 and we can't open your file, so you are automatically eliminating a lot of responders who could potentially look at your application.
