SubReports Why and How??

Maybe a silly question but my reports are always basic I have never made use of a subreport, are they really just like subforms? where you would use them to show additional details. Is there a command on the toolbox in a report to create a subreport? all I am asking is why create them and how do you create them.

One more thing in my current database I have about 20 fields from a contracts table all set to memo because they contain large amounts of text with them being legal parts of a contract so I have one report for each ie liability report, insurance report. Can I narrow it down to one standard report given that I will always want to shown a different term in the detail section??

I currently use a subreport (actually it IS the subform off of my form) to show details of the Many side of the relationship between two tables. It gets put into the report just like any other field (Can Grow/Can Shrink helps here), and yes there are toolbox buttons for it.
