Supercomputer revolution: Meet HP's The Machine

images

How excited are you?
HP claims The Machine is capable of managing 160 petabytes in 250 nanoseconds.
The Machine will be able to hand vast quantities of data using far less electricity, HP claims, adding that its system will be six times more powerful than existing servers and require 80 times less energy.
HP’s chief technology officer, Martin Fink, said The Machine’s technology could already be scaled down to be used in smartphones, which could eventually lead to making handheld devices with 100 terabytes of memory.

FYI: This is a new design of memory, combining all flash ddr(etc) into one base universal memory. (wooooot)

(Open source too ftw)

Oh come on! No one else has high hopes for this?!?!?

Definitely - one of the reasons I like computing so much is that.

1) Applications have the promise of immortality.
2) Even changing nothing so much development is going on that the same application should get quicker over time.

That is FTW right there...

This design increases the density of memory by storing it at the atom level... holy christ!

If I can't plug it into a 3D printer and get a fully working version of Scarlet Johansen out the other end then I'm not interested....

You will be first in the line when Arnie in his Terminator suit get's here... ;)

As I remember he did not have a suit when he got here, he had to steal his threads. :D

Brian

Exactly, when Arnie gets here in his Birthday Suit BlueishDan will be the first in line, and boy is that gonna smart...:p
