Greetings!

I've been working with Access 2003, and have a problem that I'm having difficulty figuring out.

Suddenly, the switchboard and form buttons stopped working - but in an odd way. The switchboard would start up, but none of the menu items were on it anymore. There were 4 layers of items with between 4-6 items on each level. Additionally, none of the buttons in any form would work - including the exit button on the switchboard. For the buttons - the animation depicting a button press would work, but there was no functionality.

I was able to recover this by exporting the appropriate forms from the baskup database...but it bothers me that I don't know what happened.

I attempted to do the "Compact and Repair" database option from database tools, but this had no effect. I also validated that I had all critical patches installed - Windows, Office, and Jet. There were no error messages displayed at any time...and all of the underlying stuff looked correct.

I searched the forums, but didn't see anything like this...

Has anyone seen this before? I'm concerned about the stability of the application and data...at least until I understand what the cause was.

Thanks!
-Joe

Check out my post about Access 2003 and 2000 bug. What you describe is similar to some of the odd things I've had happen.

Do you have Access 2000 or know where you can use a copy? See whether you have the same problem running your db in 2000.

Of course, you could have a bug in your programming! I try to eleminate that by (on a backup copy, obviously) deleting more and more code until things start working again (or not, in the case of the mystery bugs).

Also, in my post you will find reference to decompile, which I don't have much experience of, but looks another useful tool!
